This is a two day
weekend full of fibre information. This
weekend is for all fibre focused people, from alpaca breeders, to spinners,
weavers and fibre enthusiasts. Come
join the fun.
Workshops:
Alpaca History-learn what makes this animal so special. This is a
fibre focused session, to help everyone learn why alpacas are considered the
animal nearest heaven.
Sorting-learn the necessity to sorting alpaca fibre to get the best
results from your fibre. This session will help you determine quality end products for maximum return on your
annual fibre clip. Learn how to prepare fleeces for show and what judges are
looking for. The workshop follows the Canadian
Alpaca Industry Harvest Code of Practice for processing and show.
Fleeces are provided, or bring your own.
Mill Tour-this is a great opportunity to see how
fibre is actually processed into yarn, felting, battings, roving’s, for your
end product. We will be discussing different
weights of yarn and the responsibility of the producer. An exciting way to learn
more about how to get the best results from your fibre.
Scarf Felting-learn by doing. This session is a hands on experience to
create your very own felted scarf. Bring
your own carded alpaca fleece, or buy some from the mill. We will create a beautiful scarf to
wear. Please bring 3grms of carded
alpaca fibre or let us know if you would like to purchase some.
Spinning Info session-this session will help you learn the
proper preparation of fleece for spinning.
There will be flicking, drum carding and combing demonstrations as well
as spinning with a wheel and spindle.
You will be taught how to spin with a CD. This is a BYO wheel if you wish, or there
will be some available.
Fibre art-learn about weaving, needle felting and
how to knit felted hats. This is a great
opportunity to get your creative juices flowing. Lots of materials to learn, and if you have a
craft you wish to share, please bring along your ideas.
Dyeing with Alpaca-Using a variety of natural dyes, alpaca
skeins and fleece, you will see how fleeces take to certain colours. You will have hands on experience dyeing
alpaca fibre and learn about how to handle dyes in a safe manner. Samples will be distributed from various dye
baths. Recipes will be available.
Registration is
$60.00 for Alpaca Ontario Members and $75.00 for Non members. Please register ASAP as there are limited
spots available.
Accommodations in
surrounding area will be available by request.
Those who wish to stay over night at Edy’s Mill Fine Fibers,
are welcome to bring their camping gear and utilize space on the property.
Meals will be
available to purchase during this two day event.
